A Road Trip Across Lesvos: One Route, Endless Views
Start your journey in Mytilene, the capital of Lesvos, and drive north to Mandamados, home to the imposing monastery of Archangel Taxiarchis, the island’s patron saint. Continue to Molyvos and stroll through its uphill cobblestone alleys that lead to the medieval castle. Next stop: Petra, where you can take some time to climb the 114 steps to the church of Panagia Glykofilousa, impressively built on top of a rock. Follow the road west to Eresos, birthplace of the poetess Sappho, the "Tenth Muse", and then on to Sigri, home to the unique Petrified Forest - a Natural Monument under UNESCO protection - and the renowned Natural History Museum. Head south to Plomari to enjoy the island’s most famous anise-flavored ouzo and a variety of local delicacies served right by the sea. End your journey in Agiasos, a picturesque mountain village with a rich woodcarving tradition, charming traditional cafés and handmade spoon sweets.
